Comcast Cable is behind a new mentoring effort in Houston and nationwide that is expanding Big Brothers Big Sisters’ School-Based Mentoring program.

It’s called “Beyond School Walls.”

In traditional School-Based Mentoring, our volunteers travel to their child’s school once a week for about an hour – usually at lunchtime. But with Beyond School Walls, the Littles travel to see their Bigs where they work.

We’re very excited to launch “Beyond School Walls” here in Houston with Comcast’s help. In fact, Comcast employees are the first to participate in this important and fun mentoring method. Houston is one of five cities in the country where Comcast is helping launch the service.

As you can imagine, it’s a big deal for the kids – and for the Bigs!

Read more about Comcast’s Beyond School Walls effort here in this story from the Houston Chronicle.

Here’s another story in the Cypress Times.

I think this is a very interesting project that will make a big impact on the young ones, something I would like to say will brighten there horizons. Could you please contact The University of Texas Medical Branch I believe they would be interested in being involved.
