Houston, Texas (September 22, 2008) Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Houston encourages all of its volunteers, children, and their families to reach out to one another following Hurricane Ike.
For children affected by the storm, hearing from their Big Brother or Big Sister can be a crucial step in getting their lives back to normal after more than a week of possible upheaval. The consistency of having a mentor in the life of a child is a critical and unique part of being a Big Brothers Big Sisters mentor.
Also, “Littles” and their families are encouraged to reach out to their mentors to see how they did during the storm. Recovering from the effects of Hurricane Ike together can make a match stronger.
The Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Houston main office is now open again. If Bigs or Littles have any questions about how to handle a specific situation related to their match, please contact your match support specialist.
