Swing for Kids' Sake Golf Tournament

Celebrating its 10th anniversary in 2008, the Swing for Kids' Sake golf tournament is one of BBBS' most successful fundraisers.
It is held each year in November at the Cypresswood Golf Club in Spring, Texas. Members of the oil and natural gas exploration industry come together to do some golfing, some networking, and to bid on some spectacular auction items - all to support the mission of BBBS.
History
SFKS began in 1998. It was the idea off two men, Jim Metcalf and George Hanst. Jim was and still is a Big Brother with the agency, and wanted to do something to raise money for one-to-one mentoring. George was his friend who had experience running other golf tournaments.
In those 10 years, the tournament has easily generated more than $1 million in revenue for BBBS. It continues to grow each year, selling out well before the date.
In 2007, the tournament raised more than $270,000 for BBBS!
Little Links
The day before the tournament, BBBS holds "Little Links", a golf clinic for Littles in our program. Sponsors are invited to volunteer as golf instructors as our kids learn about the game of golf. The First Tee of Houston teaches the children about the "Nine Core Values" of golf, and how they apply to life outside the course.
