Agency Background

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Houston is a private, non-profit organization and an affiliate of Big Brothers Big Sisters of America. It matches children between the ages of 6 and 15 with adult volunteer mentors from the community.
We have five locations to serve the Greater Houston area: Our main office located in southwest Houston; the Bay Area, Baytown, Fort Bend County (Stafford), and Montgomery County (The Woodlands).
BBBS of Greater Houston was founded in 1950 by the Houston Junior Chamber of Commerce. The president of the Houston Jaycees at the time - Oved Essary - brought the program to Houston as a way to help boys whose fathers had died during World War II. In its first year, the agency served 30 boys. We now serve more than 2,300 boys and girls with a volunteer mentor each year.
